About this site
Hi, I’m Salem (he/him). I’m a frontend engineer and design-systems nerd who has spent 14+ years making things for the web that are fast, accessible, and fun to use: component libraries used by thousands of developers, big design-system migrations, and plenty of small sites like this one. Before that I co-owned an escape room company, which is where I picked up the habit of wiring puzzles to microcontrollers and 3D-printing whatever didn’t exist yet.
I live in Jamaica Plain with my partner and two cats, where a rotating cast of mad-scientist projects keeps me busy: a built-from-scratch CoreXY 3D printer, a wicked-smart apartment, and now this.
Hiring frontend engineers or architects? I’m currently open to principal-level frontend and design-systems roles. Have a look at salemghoweri.com, poke around my GitHub, or just say hi. I’d love to talk.
Why this exists
Spooky Bear is Ptown’s last big hurrah of the season, and every year the schedule is scattered across a dozen venue Instagrams, Facebook events and ticket pages. I wanted one mobile-friendly place to see everything, filter by day or venue, and star the stuff I don’t want to miss.
It’s unofficial and run by one fan. It is not affiliated with Northeast Ursamen, who run the official Spooky Bear weekend, or with any venue listed here. If you want the official word, go to them.
How the data works
- Every event is a small text file in a public GitHub repo, with a link back to wherever the details came from.
- Times, prices and lineups change at the last minute in Ptown. When we couldn’t confirm something, the event says so instead of guessing.
- “My den” favourites are stored only in your browser. There are no accounts and nothing is sent anywhere.
- The site uses the most basic analytics and error monitoring so I know it works. Details on the privacy page.
Spotted a mistake? Missing an event?
Tell me and I’ll fix it, usually the same day during the weekend. Flyers, Instagram links and screenshots all help. No GitHub account needed.
